The Vans Aircraft RV-6 is a single-engine, low-wing homebuilt aircraft manufactured in kit form. It accommodates two people and is well suited for builders seeking a balance of short takeoff and landing performance and high cruise speeds. The aircraft is offered in two main configurations: the standard tail-wheel layout and a nose-wheel variant.
Richard VanGrunsven developed this series as a side-by-side seating progression from earlier tandem models, addressing customer demand for a wider cockpit that kept passengers from feeling isolated. Following its initial flight, thousands of kits were completed before production transitioned to a newer replacement model. Early examples featured forward-hinged canopies, while later versions offered rearward-sliding options. Various landing gear arrangements and engine choices have been utilized by builders over the course of its production history.
