About the Dhc-1A Chipmunk

The De Havilland Canada DHC-1A CHIPMUNK is a fixed-wing primary trainer featuring a single engine and a two-seat tandem cockpit layout. Combining a low-wing monoplane configuration, conventional tailwheel landing gear, and alloy stressed-skin construction, it provides robust handling characteristics for ab initio flight instruction and aerobatic training.

Developed as the manufacturer's first post-war venture, the type flew for the first time in the mid-1940s to replace older biplane trainers. It was acquired in large numbers by multiple military air services and manufactured domestically as well as under licence abroad. Many surviving airframes remain operational with civilian owners and military heritage flights decades after their introduction.

The Dhc-1A Chipmunk is a variant of the De Havilland Canada Dhc-1. Other variants: Dhc-1 Chipmunk 22, Dhc-1 Chipmunk 22 (Lycoming), Dhc-1 Chipmunk 23 (Lycoming), Dhc-1 Chipmunk Mk 21, Dhc-1B-2.
