About the Dhc-1 Chipmunk 22 (Lycoming)

The De Havilland Canada DHC-1 CHIPMUNK 22 (LYCOMING) is a fixed-wing, single-engine tandem trainer designed to suit military and civilian operators looking for responsive handling and aerobatic capability. It features a low-mounted wing, tailwheel landing gear, and a two-seat cockpit enclosed beneath a transparent canopy.

Conceived as the manufacturer's initial post-war aviation project to succeed the Tiger Moth biplane, the prototype flew in May 1946. Military air arms procured large numbers for primary training duties, with production occurring domestically and under license abroad. Eventually replaced in service, many examples transitioned to private owners and civilian companies, with hundreds remaining airworthy globally decades later.

The Dhc-1 Chipmunk 22 (Lycoming) is a variant of the De Havilland Canada Dhc-1. Other variants: Dhc-1 Chipmunk 22, Dhc-1 Chipmunk 23 (Lycoming), Dhc-1 Chipmunk Mk 21, Dhc-1A Chipmunk, Dhc-1B-2.
