About the A-1A

The Sky International A-1A is a single-engine, fixed-wing utility light aircraft featuring tandem seating for two. Built by Aviat Aircraft in Wyoming, it is suited for observation, patrol, and utility missions, utilizing a braced high-wing layout paired with a steel tube frame and fabric covering.

Design work began in the mid-1980s by Christen Industries utilizing computer-aided design software, leading to the prototype's first flight in 1986 and subsequent certification. It achieved notable commercial success and became widely used by operators such as government departments and wildlife services for aerial patrols and environmental protection tasks. Throughout its production, various options like floats, skis, and specialized tow hooks have been approved for operational versatility.
