About the Z-143

The Zlin Z-143 is a Czech fixed-wing light aircraft featuring a single engine and a low-wing monoplane configuration. Suited for touring and training roles, the aircraft provides a four-seat cabin layout accessed via a fixed nosewheel undercarriage.

Evolving from an earlier tandem-seat trainer family, the design introduced a side-by-side cockpit and shared a large portion of its structure with its predecessor while incorporating a revised fuselage and powerplant. The prototype made its maiden flight late in the decade of the sixties, with series production beginning subsequently. Although manufacturing concluded later in the century, an updated version equipped with a Lycoming engine continues to be produced.
