About the PA-25 Pawnee

The Piper PA-25 is a single-seat, single-engine agricultural aircraft produced in the United States. Designed as a dedicated low-wing monoplane with conventional tailwheel landing gear, it features a steel tube fuselage covered in fabric and places the pilot high for optimal visibility behind an onboard chemical hopper. Beyond agricultural spraying, the aircraft is widely utilized as a glider tug and banner tow plane.

Development of the design stemmed from academic research into specialized farm aircraft before production began in Pennsylvania. Throughout its manufacturing run, several upgraded versions were introduced featuring stronger engines, larger hoppers, improved dispersal gear, and relocated fuel tanks. Thousands of examples were completed before production concluded, and the type remains supported internationally.

{# the label links to these aircraft for sale, built in that span. On the label and not the count: the bands count every aircraft on the market (on_market) while the grid shows only those with a photo (live), so the count is not a promise of how many cards appear. A band cached before year_min existed renders as plain text rather than a link to an unfiltered list. #}
