About the Yak-55
The Yakovlev YAK-55 is a single-seat, single-engine fixed-wing aircraft built specifically for aerobatic competition. It suits pilots seeking high-precision maneuvering and has secured numerous world aerobatic championships.
Following dominant performances by Soviet pilots in earlier models, a design team aimed to create a dedicated aerobatic aircraft capable of matching the tight, low-speed style of Western competitors. The resulting cantilever monoplane features a mid-mounted symmetrical wing and an enclosed cockpit. Later revisions introduced smaller wings to increase the roll rate in response to evolving aerobatic demands.
