About the 188

The Cessna 188 is a single-seat, fixed-wing agricultural aircraft produced in the USA by the Cessna Aircraft Company. Suited primarily for aerial crop dusting and chemical dispersal, this single-engine monoplane features a strut-braced low-wing layout and a semi-monocoque aluminum fuselage equipped with a fiberglass chemical hopper.

Developed after surveying operators to enter the agricultural aviation market, the 188 shared tail and powerplant elements with earlier Cessna models and made its first flight on February 19, 1965. Over a seventeen-year production run spanning variants such as the AGwagon, AGpickup, AGtruck, and AGhusky, the basic airframe remained largely unchanged while engines and dispensing systems were updated. Many units were later repurposed as glider and sailplane tugs.
