About the 14 Junior

The Bellanca 14 Junior is a single-engine, low-wing cantilever monoplane designed to carry a single pilot in its baseline configuration. As a precursor to a popular family of light aircraft, it suits general aviation users interested in vintage American touring machines.

Crafted by the Bellanca Aircraft Corporation just before the Second World War, the prototype flew in the late thirties. The series marked an important milestone by introducing retractable undercarriage to mass-produced light aircraft in the United States, though early flight testing revealed stability challenges that led to critical aerodynamic redesigns, including wing modifications and the addition of stabilizer end-plates. After testing involvement with government aeronautical agencies, wartime production shifted towards military subcontract work before the manufacturer returned to the design post-war.
