About the Pioneer 400

The Alpi Pioneer 400 is an Italian low-wing monoplane designed and produced by Alpi Aviation. It is structured as a four-seat light aircraft featuring a single engine and retractable tricycle landing gear, supplied either as an amateur-construction kit or in ready-to-fly form to suit private pilots.

Originating as a larger development of earlier light aircraft lines created by Giuseppe Vidor, the prototype made its first flight in March 2009 and debuted publicly at an airshow shortly after. The aircraft utilizes a wooden wing structure with carbon fibre skin and winglets, alongside a wooden fuselage and empennage. It achieved type approval in late 2010 followed by full approval in August 2012, with dozens of examples constructed by late 2024.
