About the Z-50

The Zlin Z-50 is a Czechoslovak single-seat aerobatic sports airplane of all-metal construction. Featuring a low-wing layout and a fixed tailwheel undercarriage, it is tailored for precision aerobatics and competition flying.

The aircraft was developed by a design team using computer optimization and first took to the air in July 1975. It replaced older series by incorporating full-span ailerons instead of landing flaps and relying on a horizontally opposed flat-six engine. Throughout its competition career, the type achieved notable success at the World Aerobatic Championships, with subsequent variants introducing more powerful engines and modified wings for enhanced maneuverability.

This page covers the Zlin Z 50, Z 50 L, Z 50 LA, Z 50 LS, Z 50 LX, Z 50 M: the same aircraft under other designations.
