About the Biplane

The Eaa Biplane is a single-engine, single-seat recreational aircraft of conventional configuration, developed in the United States. Designed primarily for home-building enthusiasts, it features a welded steel tube fuselage and wooden wings, both covered in fabric, complemented by a fixed tailwheel undercarriage and staggered equal-span wings braced with N-struts.

Development began following a preliminary layout produced by a team of Allison engineers, which took an older design as a starting point. The prototype was built by a high school group and completed with various modifications, achieving its first flight in a summer month. Construction progress reports were published in a dedicated aviation magazine, and the prototype won an achievement trophy for home-built aircraft. Plans for the aircraft were made available for amateur builders over a period of many years.
