About the Active

The Arrow Active is a British fixed-wing aircraft designed for aerobatics and advanced training. Operating as a single-seat biplane, it features staggered wings of unequal span joined by a single interplane strut, along with a fixed conventional undercarriage incorporating a tail-skid. It is well-suited for pilots seeking a sports plane layout.

Arthur Cecil Thornton established Arrow Aircraft in Yorkshire to pursue his concepts for an aerobatic single-seater. The initial variant utilized a Cirrus-Hermes engine, while the second example adopted a de Havilland Gipsy inline powerplant alongside structural adjustments to the fin, rudder, and landing gear. Although military interest failed to materialize, the airframes achieved recognition through competitive flying events, notably the King's Cup races, piloted by notable aviators of the era before encountering operational accidents.
