About the WA-40

The Wassmer WA-40 is a French fixed-wing light aeroplane designed for touring and private travel. It features a low-wing layout paired with retractable landing gear and provides seating for four or five occupants, making it ideal for private owners and flying clubs. Power is supplied by a single piston engine driving a constant-speed propeller.

Developed after the establishment of the manufacturer's design department, the prototype made its first flight in June 1959. Construction combined a welded steel tube fuselage with fabric covering alongside wooden wings. Later developments introduced swept tail surfaces, alternate engine options, and simplified fixed-gear variants for reduced operating costs. Production continued through the 1960s and into the following decade before manufacturing ceased.

This page covers the Wassmer WA-40 Super 4: the same aircraft under other designations.
