About the Defiant

The Rutan Aircraft Factory Defiant is a fixed-wing homebuilt aircraft originating from the United States, designed as a four-seat personal transport. It suits builders and private pilots seeking a light twin layout, featuring a push-pull engine configuration powered by two horizontally opposed piston engines.

Crafted by Burt Rutan as a proof-of-concept for a safe light twin, the prototype first took to the air in mid-1978. Although plans for commercial certification did not secure adequate funding, the design was adapted for amateur construction, with numerous sets of plans sold and several examples ultimately completed and registered for flight.
