About the LS-4

The Rolladen-Schneider LS-4 is a single-seat Standard Class glider well-suited for both club recreation and handicapped competitions. Developed as a successor to earlier designs, it features a low-profile fuselage housing one pilot, shoulder-mounted double-tapered wings, retractable landing gear, and upper wing surface air brakes.

Following its initial flight in nineteen eighty, the type achieved immense popularity, becoming one of the most widely produced non-military gliders before manufacturing ceased when the company entered receivership. It dominated international competitions early in its lifespan, securing top positions at world championships. The design successfully balanced docile handling characteristics for beginners with high-performance capabilities, eventually leading to a successor model.
