About the G102 Astir CS
The Burkhart Grob Flugzeugbau G102 ASTIR CS is a single-seat glassfibre Club Class sailplane well-suited for soaring pilots. It features a conventional glider layout with a T-tail, composite fiberglass and resin construction, and wing-mounted water ballast tanks. Its wide wing area helps provide favorable low-speed handling properties.
Developed by Burkhart Grob and constructed by Grob Aircraft, this type represents the manufacturer's initial sailplane creation, taking to the air for the first time in late 1974. Over the production run, several iterations emerged, including the refined CS 77, versions featuring fixed landing gear, and the later Standard variants. A notable highlight in the aircraft's history includes an absolute altitude achievement set by pilot Robert Harris during the mid-eighties.
