About the Ultra Pup

The Preceptor Ultra Pup is an amateur-built, fixed-wing ultralight aircraft featuring a single engine and seating for two occupants. Designed as a high-wing, tube-and-fabric layout, it suits hobbyists and pilots seeking a lightweight machine that can operate under specific ultralight rules when configured minimally, or built heavier for amateur and light-sport categories.

Initiated by a North American company in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, the family of aircraft includes versions that can be fitted with floats or skis for cross-country journeys. The design utilizes a welded steel fuselage with options for a foldable aluminum wing spar or a lighter fixed wooden wing spar. Throughout its production, the airframe accommodated various four-stroke powerplants, notably the Half Volkswagen design. One notable modified example achieved a Grand Champion award at a major annual airshow.
