About the PA-17

The Piper PA-17 Vagabond is a light, fixed-wing aircraft built in the United States. Featuring a high-wing configuration and a two-seat cabin accessed through side-by-side seating, it is powered by a single piston engine and utilizes conventional tailwheel landing gear. Its straightforward controls and light airframe make it particularly well-suited for flight training and recreational flying.

Developed as a post-war civilian offering by Piper Aircraft, the model followed the earlier PA-15 and shared numerous design elements with the famous J-3 Cub. The airframe utilizes a welded steel tube structure covered in fabric. Over the years, variants and owner modifications have introduced alternative powerplants, while its simple construction allows operators to handle much of the maintenance and fabric repair independently, keeping operating costs low.
