About the C-3
The Aeronca C-3 is an American single-engine, fixed-wing light aircraft designed for two occupants seated side-by-side. Built by the Aeronautical Corporation of America during the 1930s, it suits flight training and recreational flying, earning a reputation akin to a powered glider due to gentle handling and low landing speeds.
Evolving from the earlier C-2 model, the C-3 featured a tubular fuselage frame and was initially built with a distinctive razorback shape before transitioning into the roundback Master variant with improved cabin enclosure and updated undercarriage styling. A British-built version under license used a modified engine variant, while pontoon-equipped versions served aquatic needs. Production ended when regulatory airworthiness standards shifted, though older models continued flying under grandfather clauses.
