About the PA-16

The Piper PA-16 Clipper is a type-certificated, single-engine, fixed-wing aircraft featuring a high-wing taildragger layout with welded steel tubing and fabric construction. Built in the United States, it provides seating for four occupants and was created to offer an economical family transport option during the post-war general aviation era.

Developed as a stretched derivative of an earlier two-seat model, the manufacturer widened the cabin and incorporated a nose-mounted engine along with extra fuel capacity. The airframe design served as a transitional step toward subsequent company models. Although production lasted for only a single year, the type developed a dedicated following supported by specialized technical communities and readily available powerplant components.
