About the PT-3
The Consolidated PT-3 is an American fixed-wing training aircraft built by Consolidated Aircraft. It is a two-seat radial-engined biplane layout well-suited for military flight instruction, serving primarily as a trainer for armed forces.
The aircraft was developed after military evaluators concluded that a radial engine was ideal for training due to its reliability and favorable power-to-weight ratio. Following successful evaluations of modified airframes, production quantities were ordered and deployed extensively. The type was eventually superseded by newer trainers, though several remained operational with civilian flying schools into the middle of World War II.
