About the RV-8A

The Vans Aircraft RV-8A is an American homebuilt fixed-wing aircraft designed for amateur construction. It serves as a tandem two-seat, single-engine monoplane that suits pilots looking for a capable personal aircraft with aerobatic capabilities. The airframe features a low wing and a conventional layout, with the specific variant utilizing tricycle landing gear while the related base model employs tailwheel configuration.

Richard VanGrunsven created this larger, updated tandem design drawing from lessons learned with previous company projects. Publicly shown for the first time in the mid-nineteen-nineties, the airframe accommodates larger powerplants and provides increased space and utility for pilots. Thousands of examples of the series have been completed and flown by builders over the years.
