About the RV-4

The Vans Aircraft RV-4 is a fixed-wing, amateur-built homebuilt aircraft manufactured in the United States by Van's Aircraft. It features a single piston engine and utilizes a tandem seating arrangement for two occupants. The design is targeted at sport aerobatics and cross-country travel.

Designed by Richard VanGrunsven in the mid-1970s as a development of the single-seat RV-3, the prototype first flew in August 1979. It introduced a new wing with increased span and area, and its airframe accepts various engines up to the Lycoming O-360. The RV-4 has become part of the most popular kit-built aircraft family globally, with over a thousand examples completed and flown worldwide, including notable global circumnavigations.
