About the 3000
The Travel Air 3000 is an American fixed-wing biplane designed to carry three people. Operating with a single engine, this general-purpose aircraft suits various aviation roles including cross-country flying, pylon racing, and barnstorming. Its conventional layout features open tandem cockpits, a fixed tailskid undercarriage, welded steel tube fuselage construction, and wooden wings.
Originating as a direct development of earlier company models, the design relies on a nose-mounted water-cooled V-8 engine. Notable features include upper aileron aerodynamic balances and alternative wing configurations. During the late 1920s, a notable pilot set multiple women's aeronautical world records using these biplanes, including achievements in altitude, airspeed, and solo endurance. Aircraft of this family were also utilized in movie production to portray military types.
