About the F.260

The Siai-Marchetti F.260 is an Italian fixed-wing aircraft featuring a single piston engine and a low-wing monoplane layout with retractable tricycle landing gear. It accommodates up to three occupants under a glazed canopy and is built around an all-metal, flush-riveted airframe. It suits military training, aerobatics, and light close air support roles, offering handling characteristics that appeal to air forces as well as civilian warbird and aerobatic pilots.

Developed from earlier designs by Stelio Frati, the prototype first flew in the mid-1960s under the designation Aviamilano F.250 before manufacturing rights were acquired by Siai-Marchetti. The type gained widespread military adoption across multiple continents, spawning variants such as the armed Warrior and turboprop-powered versions. Over nine hundred units were eventually produced across a multi-decade manufacturing run that later involved Aermacchi and Leonardo.
