About the DH-85 Leopard Moth

The De Havilland DH-85 Leopard Moth is a single-engine, high-wing cabin monoplane featuring a distinctive three-seat layout where the pilot sits centrally ahead of two side-by-side passengers. Built in the United Kingdom, its design incorporates folding wings for convenient hangarage and a lightweight all-plywood structure that serves private owners and commercial operators alike.

Created as a successor to earlier company types, the prototype first flew and promptly won a prominent racing event. Production yielded over a hundred units distributed globally to various countries for private and commercial use. During wartime, many civilian examples were impressed into military communication duties, with a handful of survivors remaining airworthy decades later.
