About the 4E
The Stearman Aircraft 4E is an American commercial biplane featuring a single engine and three seats. It was marketed primarily as a fast executive transport and mail plane, well-suited for commercial operators requiring a rugged machine.
The model was developed by deepening the fuselage of an earlier design to accommodate more powerful powerplants and heavier cargo loads, while providing heated cockpits for occupants. Production took place in Kansas, with units delivered to various commercial airlines, training programs, and military auxiliary efforts. Due to its durable construction, many examples survived decades of heavy use, later transitioning to roles as crop dusters, private veteran aircraft, and museum exhibits.
