About the GA-8 Airvan

The GippsAero GA8 is a single-engine, fixed-wing utility aircraft manufactured in Australia, featuring seating for up to eight occupants. It is tailored for operations in remote regions and from rudimentary airstrips, fulfilling missions such as passenger transport, cargo hauling, sightseeing, skydiving, aerial observation, search and rescue, and surveillance. The layout prioritizes durability and operational simplicity.

Created by Peter Furlong to bridge a perceived gap between smaller and larger utility models, the aircraft underwent its maiden flight in 1995. It achieved type certification under stringent airworthiness standards after undergoing rigorous dynamic and control testing. Over the years, variants including turbocharged models and a floatplane version were introduced, along with an enlarged turboprop derivative. The type achieved a notable milestone by completing a global circumnavigation. Following corporate acquisitions and a production hiatus due to pandemic-related economic pressures, manufacturing rights were reacquired to resume production of the airframe.
