About the D-1

The Davis D-1 is an American light fixed-wing aircraft featuring a parasol wing configuration and tandem open cockpits. Designed to seat two individuals, the type suits sporting pilots and leisure flyers seeking a traditional open-air flying experience.

Developed from earlier designs linked to the Vulcan American Moth and the Davis V-3, the aircraft utilizes mixed construction with a fabric-covered welded steel-tube fuselage and a braced wing. The type achieved notable success in air racing during the late interwar period, capturing victories in national competitions piloted by prominent aviators. Although production ended following the onset of the Great Depression and a factory fire, several examples have survived in airworthy condition into modern times.
