About the L 16
The Aeronca L-16 is a fixed-wing liaison aircraft from the United States, utilizing a single piston engine and a conventional layout. Suited for military observation and utility duties, it features an air-cooled flat-four powerplant and accommodates a crew of two.
Serving extensively in the Korean War, the type functioned as a militarized evolution of the Aeronca Champion. It was deployed primarily to supplant older liaison models in United States military operations, offering improved stability, visibility, pilot comfort, and overall performance. Later in its operational lifespan, substantial quantities were transferred to the Civil Air Patrol.
