About the BO-209 Monsun

The Bolkow BO-209 Monsun is a West German single-engine, fixed-wing light aircraft featuring a two-seat cockpit layout. Designed with versatility and international aviator preferences in mind, it incorporates a low-wing monoplane configuration with a tricycle undercarriage and foldable wings intended for simplified towing and garage storage. It suits private owners seeking a manoeuvrable and responsive personal touring aircraft.

Conceived by company engineers working in their spare time, the prototype made its maiden flight in December before being selected to succeed an earlier model in production. Manufacturing runs were relatively limited, seeing completion by the original firm before subsequent overseas production attempts and later highly revised derivative models were pursued by other European entities. The aircraft accommodates sophisticated optional instrumentation, ranging from transponders and navigation systems to emergency locator beacons within its tinted bubble canopy.
