About the AS-K 13
The Alexander Schleicher & AS-K 13 is a German tandem two-seat glider classified as a type-certificated sailplane. Built primarily for flight training and leisure soaring, its mid-wing configuration and large blown canopy offer an excellent field of view for both instructor and student. The layout features a welded steel tube fuselage combined with fabric and wood surfaces, along with a sprung non-retractable wheel.
Developed as a successor to earlier tandem sailplanes, this model first took to the air in prototype form during the mid-nineteenth decade. It achieved considerable popularity among flying clubs worldwide due to its forgiving stall and spin recovery traits, robust construction, and ease of repair. Hundreds of examples were eventually produced by the original manufacturer and under license to serve training centers.
