About the K Scout

The Aeronca K Scout is a single-engine, fixed-wing light airplane designed with a fully enclosed cockpit that seats two occupants side-by-side. Manufactured in the United States, it serves primarily as a personal or recreational aircraft and acts as a conventional successor to earlier open-cockpit lines. Its structural layout incorporates a welded steel-tube fuselage with fabric covering, strut-braced wooden-spar wings, and a fixed tailwheel undercarriage.

Introduced in the late nineteen-thirties, the design marked a shift toward more conventional appearances by eliminating earlier fuselage bathtub styles and wire-braced wings. Throughout its production run, several variants were developed by introducing alternative flat-twin and four-cylinder engine options, along with configurations capable of operating on skis or floats. Hundreds of examples were constructed, and surviving airframes remain preserved in museums or active on civil registers.
