About the Spitfire Mark Xiv

The Vickers Spitfire Mark XIV is a British single-seat interceptor aircraft designed for military fighter operations. It is a fixed-wing monoplane featuring a single engine and a single-seat layout suited for high-performance combat roles.

Designed by R.J. Mitchell at Supermarine, the aircraft featured a distinctive elliptical wing with sunken rivets and a thin cross-section for high speed. Powered initially by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, the adaptable airframe later accepted more powerful Griffon engines. It served extensively with the Royal Air Force and Allied nations during and after the Second World War as a fighter, trainer, and reconnaissance platform, achieving iconic status alongside the Hawker Hurricane.
