About the Pik-23

The Valmet PIK-23 is a fixed-wing aircraft built entirely from composite materials in Finland. Designed as a two-seater, it serves primarily in the roles of glider towing and basic flight training.

Conceived by a university aviation club to improve upon a previous design, the project was later joined by an industrial manufacturer and a technical university to start development from scratch. Only two examples of the aircraft were manufactured for testing and evaluation. The maiden flight was flown by a test pilot, followed by the second aircraft the subsequent year. Despite intensive marketing efforts and investigations into selling parts for self-assembly to reduce costs, no production orders followed, though the type achieved success in its intended glider-towing role.
