About the T-67 Firefly

The Slingsby T-67 Firefly is a fixed-wing aerobatic training aircraft featuring a single engine and a side-by-side two-seat cockpit built into a glass-reinforced plastic composite airframe. It incorporates high aspect-ratio wings and is fully aerobatic, making it well-suited for rigorous military flight screening and civilian sport flying. The cockpit layout on specific variants is arranged to accommodate pilots accustomed to traditional military throttle placements.

Originally conceived in France by René Fournier as a wooden aircraft, the design was acquired and completely re-engineered using composite materials by Slingsby Aviation in England. Subsequent versions received progressively more powerful fuel-injected engines and inverted systems to support sustained negative-G maneuvers, with total production surpassing two hundred airframes. The type achieved widespread military adoption internationally, though its career also involved controversy and fleet groundings following a series of fatal accidents during training operations with the United States Air Force.
