About the Aircamper

The Pietenpol Aircamper is an ultralight, fixed-wing homebuilt aircraft featuring a parasol wing layout. It is designed to seat two individuals and utilizes a single engine. Created to be accessible and affordable for amateur builders, the aircraft primarily requires basic woodworking skills using spruce and plywood, alongside some metal fittings and welding.

Crafted by Bernard H. Pietenpol, the prototype completed its first flight in the late nineteen-twenties. The design initially employed an automotive conversion engine, and over the decades, builders have adapted more than thirty different engine varieties to the airframe, including popular air-cooled flat-fours and flat-sixes. Plans were originally published in a specialized manual series, and kits have occasionally been made available commercially through aviation suppliers. Several examples have remained operational internationally for decades.
