About the J6 'KARATOO'
The Norman Aviation J6 Karatoo is a Canadian fixed-wing ultralight aircraft designed for amateur construction and recreational flying. It features a strut-braced high-wing layout, an enclosed cockpit with side-by-side seating for two people, fixed conventional landing gear, and a single tractor-configuration engine.
Engineered by Jesse Anglin to comply with specific ultralight regulations, the airframe combines a welded steel tube fuselage with wooden wings, all enveloped in doped aircraft fabric. The wing structure includes functional flaps and is supported by V-struts and jury struts. Builders could construct the aircraft from factory-supplied kits or acquire completed ready-to-fly versions, with standard propulsion provided by various four-stroke or two-stroke powerplants. Kit construction typically required hundreds of hours of assembly work, and examples were later active on the Transport Canada Civil Aviation Register.
