About the H-800 Courier
The Helio H-800 Courier is an American fixed-wing single-engined light utility aircraft configured for short takeoff and landing operations. Designed to suit utility and STOL transport roles, it features a high-wing layout with automatic leading-edge slats and large trailing-edge flaps, paired with a geared piston engine and a large constant-speed propeller.
The concept originated from experimental conversions of post-war trainers featuring lengthened cabins and modified wings, leading to decades of production by successive manufacturing companies. Famous for exceptionally steep climb angles and minimal ground roll requirements during airshows, the design underwent subsequent modernizations featuring direct-drive powerplants, composite landing gear, and winglets. Intellectual property and production rights eventually transitioned to Alaskan enterprises supported by modernized tooling and manufacturing advancements.
