About the DG-500 Elan Orion

The Glaser-Dirks Flugzeugbau DG-500 ELAN ORION is a two-seat glider constructed from glass-reinforced and carbon fiber-reinforced plastics, featuring a retractable main landing gear. It serves primarily as a trainer or high-performance sailplane depending on the chosen wingspan configuration.

First flying in 1987, the aircraft family includes fully aerobatic training variants as well as versions capable of carrying water ballast and motorglider adaptations. Production of later iterations shifted to Slovenia, maintaining the type's presence in flight instruction and soaring fleets.
