About the DA-5

The Davis DA-5 is a fixed-wing sport aircraft created in the United States and intended for homebuilding enthusiasts. It features a single-seat configuration housed within a narrow fuselage, paired with a low-wing monoplane layout, a V-tail, and fixed tricycle landing gear. Power is supplied by a single horizontally-opposed piston engine driving a wooden propeller.

Created by designer Leeon D. Davis, the project followed his earlier DA-2 aircraft. Initial design work began in the early 1970s, though construction of the prototype did not start until 1974. The prototype was assembled rapidly, taking just over two months to complete from start to finish.
