About the GA7
The Cougar is an American fixed-wing, all-metal, four-seat, twin-engined light aircraft. Designed as a low-wing cantilever monoplane, it suits general aviation users looking for a twin-engine layout powered by two horizontally-opposed aircraft engines.
Tracing its lineage to earlier single-engined designs, the prototype first flew in December 1974 with a sliding canopy before being reworked with a starboard side door for production. After being taken over by American Jet Industries and renamed Gulfstream American, production ran for only two model years with just 115 deliveries. The type certificate later passed through French manufacturer SOCATA, which tested modified engine variants, before ultimately being transferred to the Cougar Aircraft Corporation.
