About the 76 Duchess

The Beechcraft 76 Duchess is an American twin-engined, low-wing monoplane featuring a T-tail and retractable tricycle landing gear. Designed to seat four individuals, it serves as an economical twin-engine trainer intended to introduce pilots to multi-engine flying while competing with similar light aircraft in the same category.

Created from preliminary designs, the aircraft utilized bonded aluminum honeycomb construction for its wings to reduce manufacturing costs and create a smooth aerodynamic surface, adapting components from the manufacturer's single-engine line. It incorporates counter-rotating engines to eliminate the critical engine phenomenon during single-engine operations. Production took place at a dedicated facility over a multi-year period, alongside a single experimental test variant fitted with turbocharged powerplants.
