About the Mistral

The Aviasud Mistral is a French fixed-wing ultralight biplane featuring an enclosed cockpit with side-by-side seating for two occupants, a fixed tricycle landing gear, and a nose-mounted two-stroke piston engine. Utilizing a mixed wood and composite construction, the aircraft is particularly notable for its forward-swept wings and movable lower panels that act as large ailerons.

Conceived by Belgian engineers, the prototype took to the air before the type entered production in France and later saw manufacturing abroad. A notable historical milestone for the model involved an expedition flight piloted to the geographic North Pole, marking a world first for this aircraft category.
