About the J-5B Autocar
The Auster J-5B Autocar is a British single-engine, high-wing touring aircraft designed to carry four occupants. Manufactured in Leicestershire by Auster Aircraft Limited, this fixed-wing monoplane serves as a heavier utility and touring machine well-suited for private and regional operations.
Developed to expand upon the earlier three-seat models, the airframe introduced wing-root fuel tanks alongside a larger cabin layout. Following the prototype's initial flights and public exhibition, subsequent iterations were modified for tropical environments and fitted with alternative engines from various manufacturers, while some examples underwent further powerplant conversions abroad.
