About the A109SP

The Agusta A109SP is a type-certificated multi-purpose rotorcraft designed to accommodate up to eight people, including the pilot. Manufactured in Italy, this twin-engine helicopter serves a wide variety of roles, including executive and VIP transport, light utility, law enforcement, search and rescue, aeromedical missions, and armed military operations.

Development began in the late 1960s as a single-engine commercial project before being re-engineered around twin turboshafts. The first prototype flew in August 1971, and civil deliveries commenced following certification. Over the decades, the helicopter has evolved through numerous variants with different powerplant upgrades, strengthened landing gear, and advanced avionics. Production has continued for over forty years, with major structural components supplied internationally and thousands of hours logged across global military and civilian operators.
