About the 600

The Aerostar 600 is an American light twin-engined piston aircraft of type-certificated category, designed by Ted R. Smith. It suits operators seeking a high-performance twin, utilizing a low-wing layout powered by two counter-rotating piston engines and offering a retractable landing gear system.

The initial design originated from the Ted Smith Aircraft Company and first flew as the Model 320 in November 1966, eventually entering production as the Aerostar 600. The program experienced several corporate changes, transfers, and a production hiatus before rights were reacquired by its designer and later purchased by the Piper Aircraft Corporation, which designated the line as the PA-60 and introduced pressurized variants like the 601P and enhanced models such as the 602P and 700 Superstar.

This page covers the Aerostar Aircraft Aerostar 600: the same aircraft under other designations.
