UK Civil Aviation Authority Advances Plans For Mandatory Electronic Conspicuity

Despite pushback from aviators and industry watchers, the UK Civil Aviation Authority appears set on requiring Electronic Conspicuity equipment for all aircraft flying in UK airspace.

In a recent video presentation, the regulator detailed its position regarding Electronic Conspicuity devices. An accompanying graphic in the presentation apparently confirms that the overall goal of the organization is to mandate this equipment across all aircraft operating in UK airspace.

The regulatory body stated that Electronic Conspicuity will serve as an enabler for both strategic and tactical deconfliction of aircraft within unsegregated airspace. Tactical deconfliction is intended to function as the primary mitigation tool, while strategic deconfliction will improve overall risk management.

Furthermore, the organization indicated that ground infrastructure will be utilized to strengthen both mitigation strategies where appropriate. These details emerged through a video presentation that included screenshots published on October 7, 2026, with related coverage occurring on September 30, 2026, and September 28, 2026, by Chris Frear.

Current plans do not include any intention by the authority to provide additional subsidies for the acquisition of these devices, even if carrying them becomes a legal requirement. Both pilots and industry observers have expressed reservations regarding the push for mandatory carriage of the technology.
