FAA Brings Free Hypoxia Training Sessions to Fort Meade Executive Airport
Pilots can learn to recognize their personal physiological warning signs of oxygen deprivation through a four-day FAA training program.
According to General Aviation News, Fort Meade Executive Airport in Maryland is hosting the FAA Portable Reduced Oxygen Training Enclosure for hypoxia awareness instruction. The program runs from October twenty-first through October twenty-fourth, twenty twenty-six, and is provided free of charge.
Physiologists from the Civil Aerospace Medical Institute are conducting forty-five minute sessions designed to let aviators experience simulated hypoxia inside a controlled environment. Airport officials stated that the hands-on training seeks to enhance flight safety at higher altitudes, where oxygen deprivation can negatively affect decision-making, coordination, and judgment.
The schedule runs from eight in the morning until three-thirty in the afternoon on October twenty-first through the twenty-third. On October twenty-fourth, sessions take place from eight in the morning until eleven-forty-five in the morning. All training occurs at Hangar eighty-five, situated at seven thousand five hundred one General Aviation Drive in Fort George G. Meade, Maryland.
Participants are required to be at least eighteen years old and must possess either a current FAA medical certificate or a BasicMed qualification. Attendees need to bring a government-issued photo identification along with their medical paperwork, arriving for check-in thirty minutes before their scheduled appointment.
Registration must be completed in advance through the participant's FAA WINGS account. Further details are available through FAASafety.gov for interested aviators looking to attend.
